TRANSAS BREAKTHROUGH IN THE DANISH MARKET

TRANSAS BREAKTHROUGH IN THE DANISH MARKET

A country with a population of about five and half million, Denmark is able to punch far above its weight in maritime matters owing to a combination of factors. These include a vast coastline, its location at the entrance to the Baltic and as a gateway to the European mainland, and a longstanding maritime tradition going back centuries. The sum of these factors has made the country a magnet for maritime activity.

Danish shipping operates seven to eight per cent of world tonnage, but accounts for close to 10 per cent of the total turnover from global maritime goods transport. Only five per cent of Danish shipping activity takes place in local waters, while 75 per cent takes place outside European waters altogether. Shipping has become Denmark's second most important export earner, with an aggregate turnover of 190 billion DKK in 2008.

With these facts in mind, Transas is happy to communicate its’ recent achievements on Danish market:

Transas has received a bid from one of the Denmark’s oldest internationally operating shipping companies - NORDEN. NORDEN decided not only for Transas Dual ECDIS for its’ 6 newbuilds in Korea, but also for Transas’ new radar series, Navi-Radar X- and S-Band for the first vessel in their fleet, the NORDKAP. This procurement will be supplemented by the update of the earlier installed Transas ECDIS to the latest version of Transas Navi-Sailor ECDIS 4000 with new compact RS6 PC with installation carried out in China this summer.

Moreover TORM, another major player in Danish maritime industry, established in 1889 and now operating a fleet of over 130 modern vessels, has placed an order for 11 x Transas Dual ECDIS systems to be installed on board TORM’s new building series from China. TORM has previously installed a huge number of Transas Dual ECDIS and SVDRs in their impressive fleet.
Recently Transas supplied the last of in total 10 sets of Dual ECDIS for Esvagt’s new building series from a Singapore based yard. Esvagt operates an impressive fleet of stand-by vessels in the North Sea oil fields.

Another achievement is the installations of Transas Dual ECDIS on two vessels of one of the world’s leading bunker company, OW Bunker – “OW Copenhagen” and “OW Aalborg”. Installation onboard both vessels have already been accomplished and the vessels operate paperless using TADS (Transas Admiralty Data Service).

Svitzer, the world’s leading tug boat company and part of Maersk group, already operates paperless on 5 tugs with Transas equipment. Now Svitzer decided to broaden its portfolio of orders by signing the contract for its newbuilds in Spain. An order for 3 newbuildings from China is next in turn.

Dannebrog Rederi/Nordana Line decided for Transas Dual ECDIS for their 10 newbuilds from China. Delivery of units was made through a turnkey supplier in Germany (INTERSCHALT), which has delivered full electronics and communication equipment for these 10 newbuilds.

Transas supplied LRIT service and made performance test for all vessels in the entire fleet of J. Lauritzen, Clipper Fleet, ISP-USA and Janus Andersen/Nørresundby Rederi, which makes in total approximately 125 units.

Copenhagen Harbour (“By og Havn”) recently decided for Transas Harbour View AIS software including AIS units for their 8 boats.
A multitude of substantial projects are in its final stage including
- our first supply of Dual ECDIS for a NB constructed at Namura Yard in Japan for J. Lauritzen Bulkers (Transas has previously delivered and installed DUAL ECDIS and S-VDR units on board most of the impressive Lauritzen gas tanker fleet)
- Clipper new build series (3 Dual ECDIS for first series from Fukuoka Yard (Japan). Clipper previously has fitted Transas Dual ECDIS with SENC chart service in most of their huge tanker fleet.
- a total Transas bridge concept (full set of NAV/COM equipment including Dual ECDIS and 2 X-band radars) for a support vessel for CT Offshore for the Danish offshore wind farm industry
- Dual ECDIS installation on the “Ocean Bird” belonging to the J. Poulsen Shipping Co. (first vessel to operate paperless within this ship owner’s fleet)
- upgrade of 3 former Maersk gas tankers, now owned by Othello Shipping and operated through Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, to full Dual ECDIS and paperless navigation (2 vessels have already been equipped “the Arctic Gas” and the “Baltic Gas”- installs in Algeciras and Venezuela).
- Further supplies for herning-shipping are already confirmed and besides that Dual ECDIS for 5 newbuilds from Nantong Mingde Yard in China have already or are being installed this summer.

Currently Transas holds approximately 90% of the Danish ECDIS market on retrofit installations with the number of installations carried out for the major Danish owners. Undoubtedly it’s a great achievement, which will pave the way to even better results and further sales for newbuilds and retrofit installations.
