INTRODUCING THE ECOMAR SYSTEM

INTRODUCING THE ECOMAR SYSTEM

Since thirty years Tecnicomar srl, certified ISO 9001:2000, is producing watermakers to get fresh water from sea, brackish or well water thanks to the reverse osmosis principle.

About four years ago TECNICOMAR – always standing out for the high quality of its products realised with advanced technology and design – has introduced the ECOmar: a new series of sewage treatment systems.

Up to recently maritime navigators had to store liquids in an appropriate collecting tank on board and then unload the wastewater in appointed marinas equipped with purifier or call for skilled firms to get the boat tanks emptied.

The ECOmar systems instead are able to transform the sewage autonomically on board accordingly to the International Standards and with consequent possibility to discharge it directly into the sea.

These systems comply perfectly with the rules in force (IMO/MARPOL no. MEPC.2 (VI), European Directive 96/98/EC - MED) and are supplied complete of Approval Certificate from Lloyd’s Register.

The conformity to the above European Directive is acknowledged and accepted by the American Coast Guard so that the ECOmar is authorised to be used in the American sea.

The ECOmar series is fully automatically managed by a microprocessor PLC and a backlighted liquid crystal display. Each treatment cycle takes only 15 minutes. The ECOmar can be run also in emergency mode in case for boats of failure of the boat electronics. Worth mentioning is its low electrical consumption: only 0.75 kW.

The system has an extremely compact design which offers not only small dimensions but also a particularly light for boat weight. The treatment tank is realised completely in synthetic material (polypropylene) to exclude corrosion while it resists without deformation nevertheless to temperatures up to 160°C (temperature of inflammation: 360°C).

The Italian Patent was registered on 27th May 2005 and a claim for the European Patent has been issued on 6th April 2006.

WORKING PRINCIPLE
The unit does not need to be run by any operator, whose only task is to start up the unit in auto-mode. The cycle starts with loading a known quantity of waste water from the collecting tank on board to the ECOmar’s treatment tank. After loading the sewage is macerated for a fixed period of time and then mixed up with a known quantity of disinfectant liquid. Finally some clean sea water is added and the maceration is continued for a further fixed period of time. During these steps, lasting some minutes, the chemical-physical reactions inside disinfect the water and reduce the dimensions of the sediments so that the water can be discharged into the sea in compliance with the International Rules. At the end of every cycle takes place an automatic washing of the ECOMAR tank and probe.
The auto-run cycle is continuous in that the unit is able to run automatically a wastewater treatment cycle as soon as the quantity stored is at the minimum level set to start up the cycle.
Each cycle lasts about 12-15 minutes.

Furthermore the ECOmar can control two on board tanks with two appropriate probes and can pilot two filling boat pumps.

Main pros
- Available in 5 versions: ECOmar 6, ECOmar 8, ECOmar 16, ECOmar 24, ECOmar 50.
- No pollution: the oxidant liquid does not release any toxicant substances;
- Easy to use: fully automatic with emergency running mode;
- Versatile: available also in 24 Vdc and 400 Vac.;
- Compact: designed to operate even in small engine for boat rooms.

The ECOmar series is provided by a treatment tank in polypropylene (PP) complying to the rule 2002/95/EC which guarantees that the polypropylene used does not contain the following substances: lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr6), polybiphenyl bromide (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE).
The chosen polypropylene, PP-DWU type, has optimal structural and physical-mechanical qualities which make it competitive with every other material.

Moreover the application of this synthetic material eliminates the occurrence of galvanic electricity and corrosion favoured by the marine environment.
