For the first time in Europe there was a chance to test the newest product of Yamaha Marine, 4-stroke outboard engine for boat with 350 HP and capacity of 5330 cm³ – the biggest outboard engine ever. It debuted in double installation on boat for boat TM-1226 OB on the Baltic Sea – giving this unit total power of 700 HP! Despite of weight of the boat within 4,3 t and additional fuel load (1000 l), the unit achieved maximum speed over 90 km/h.
12 meters long boat, on which the engines were tested, can be used as a taxi boat (there are seating places for 20 persons), as well as a professional work range boat (after deinstalling 3 rows of Jockey boat seats from bow part of the boat, there can be gained grand additional space for cargo). Steering console with specially profiled windscreen, covered with T-top, warrants very efficient protection against splash of water even during navigational in the most hard weather conditions.
The new Yamaha engines have enough power to be installed instead of high pressure inboard engines with a benefit of taking much less of space and allowing to have a good entrance into the engines during service works. Positioning the engines extremaly on the transom board cause that the boat is not weight down centrally and its hull can easier jump up above the water lessening its resistance while sailing through waves. Easy throttle handling and possibility of independent steering of each of the engines have a great influence on the manouvering skills of the boat. During the water tests the boat made 180 degrees turns immediately and the turning circle – despite of the boat's gabarit – turned out to be extremaly small.
