Suunto, the global market leader in dive boat computers, introduces a new dive computer designed for the dynamic water sports enthusiast. The new Suunto D4 is an advanced wristop dive computer with intelligent free diving features. It informs the diver of the safe dive time and any necessary deep stops, to make every dive as carefree as possible. Constructed from lightweight, composite material, the Suunto D4's design is contemporary and sleek.
The Suunto D4 is the introductory model in the Suunto diving line and features three modes.
In the Air mode, the Suunto D4 is a refined dive computer with full decompression capability. Along with full dive functions, the Suunto D4 has extensive memory capabilities, profile recording, and dive-planning functionality. The logbook/profile memory can store up to 80 hours of dive data, with a lifetime dive history also recorded. Using the Suunto Reduced Gradient Bubble Model (Suunto RGBM) algorithms for decompression calculations, the model can be adjusted using personal/altitude settings. Deep stops can also be switched on to allow for deeper safety stops.
In the Nitrox mode, the Suunto D4 provides the same functionality as in the Air mode, but also enables the use of nitrox mixtures with an oxygen content of 21-50% and an adjustable PO2 limit of 0.5-1.6 bar.
In the Freediving mode, the Suunto D4 provides the diver with accurate depth and time recordings as well as boat alarms. The Suunto D4 is programmed to capture the depth three times a second for an accurate maximum depth reading, while also recording the profile memory every second. The dive time, in minutes and seconds, is clearly visible in the center of the display. The user-adjustable alarms can be set in advance to keep divers informed of their progress throughout their dive.
After the dive, the user can view the complete daily dive history with the push of a button. The Suunto D4 displays the deepest dive and dive time, as well as the longest dive time with the maximum depth reached on that specific dive.
The Suunto D4 not only serves as a functional diving watch for boat, but also as a total timepiece. With dual time, calendar date, daily alarm, and stopwatch, it doesn't need to be taken off when the dive is over.
The new Suunto D4 will be on the market at the beginning of 2008.
