SABRE LAUNCHES FIRST POD DRIVE MOTORYACHT
South Casco, Maine, June 23, 2008. Sabre Yachts manufacturers, this week, launched the first Sabre 42 Hard Top Express with Cummins Zeus pod drives. The sea trial results for this new and innovative drive system exceeded the expectations of this Maine based boat builder.
Coupled to an intuitive joystick, the Cummins Zeus system changes everything. Pod drives eliminate the conventional shafts and rudders and in their place are articulating pods which provide vectored thrust. Due to the increased efficiencies of the thrust angles, fuel savings of as much as 20% can be achieved. The 42 Zeus achieved 34 knots with a pair of Cummins 425HP QSB diesels. The shaft driven sailboat boat has a top speed of 33 knots with larger 540Hp engines.”
