Currently in production is the first of two carbon fibre boat masts on order for S/Y Athos, a 62 m Hoek Design schooner. Two carbon fibre rollaway boat booms and a duplex steel bowsprit will follow. The masts measuring 60 and 54 meters tall will be constructed out of High Modulus fiber to minimize weight.
The forward boom will measure 15 m and the main boom will measure 23.5 m, the latter being the longest ever built at Rondal, even surpassing Athena’s mizzen boom by one meter.
The rig package includes boomvangs, backstay cylinders and a crow’s nest. PBO rigging was also selected to reduce weight aloft. The expected delivery time is summer of 2009.
