Port (01), le 21st March 2008 – As part of the Departmental Sailing Plan adopted in January 2004 by the General Council for the Côtes d'Armor department (22), the Breton seaside resort is embarking upon
the construction of one of the largest marinas in the département. An invitation to boat tender for the installation of the pontoons was submitted by the Group covering building the marina in entirety, the client for the building work being the Conseil Général, the CCI and the town.
When the tendering exercise was complete, PORALU MARIN was awarded this contract, for which it had competed against three other French companies. This is the first work on this scale carried out in
this region by PORALU MARINE, which is strengthening its lead in the market for top-of-the-range pontoons and marinas in France.
A project which will meet the high demand for watersports and fishing
It is estimated today that the Côtes d'Armor département needs a further 4,000 marinas and moorings, and it is especially on the east coast, where the town of Saint-Cast stands, that the requirement is most noticeable.
Standing on the Côte d’Emeraude, between Cap Fréhel and Dinard, not far from Saint-Malo, the resort of Saint-Cast intends to meet the increasing demand for watersports and fishing which generate so much income for the
region.
It is with this in mind that this project was launched, intended to transform the current area, with its 210 moorings, into a marina, including 739 boat spaces with pontoons.
As well as alleviating the very inadequate number of moorings currently available, this new deep water marina will in particular improve the quality of the shelter, as the harbour is very exposed to winds. The selected project will give direct access to boat boats via pontoons, regardless of tide and weather conditions.
These installations, together with more plentiful harbour facilities, will make future users, sailors and holidaymakers alike, feel more at ease when moored.
Signed in June 2007 by PORALU MARINE, this major project is costing about 3 M€. The first pontoons
are due to be delivered in January 2009. To install them will take PORALU MARINE's teams 4 months.
The new marina at Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, the Côtes d’Armor seaside resort, is due to be officially opened on 15th June 2009.
As Franck Neveu, PORALU MARINE's manager for this project, explains, "we are very fortunate to be taking part in the construction of one of the largest marinas in the Côtes d’Armor department. This new
contract illustrates both how dynamic the sailing sector is and the work which has still to be done in France, and confirms PORALU MARINE's role as a major player in this market."
