S.O.L.A.S. CERTIFIABLE CRANES FOR LIFEBOATS AND RAFTS

S.O.L.A.S. CERTIFIABLE CRANES FOR LIFEBOATS AND RAFTS

Some families of fly and bow cranes produced by Opacmare can be used with rescue boats and rafts and are certifiable under the International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea, S.O.L.A.S.1974.

Opacmare – producers of components and accessories in stainless steel and aluminium – proposes a series of incredible cranes and davits in its catalogue designed to move tenders: some among the standard models – more precisely eight families totalling 16 models – with specific characteristics and subject to rigorous load and quality controls can be certified as meeting the requirements specified by the International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea.

S.O.L.A.S. is the IMO (International Marine Organization) convention to ensure Safety Of Life At Sea aimed at enhancing the safety standards of ships and in particular safeguarding the lives of those aboard vessels equal to and in excess of 500 tonnes.

The cranes in question are slewing boom cranes with either a telescopic or fixed arm and can be positioned either on the fly or on the bow. Standard versions have a lifting capacity of between 300 (660 Lb) and 2200kg (4850 Lb); the versions that can be used with life boats and rafts must also possess specific characteristics such as:
• An independent power supply
• A quick tender release system
• A no-tangle stainless steel cable
• A winch operated cable descent system that includes an automatic brake
• Satisfactory trials of static and dynamic loading under unfavourable trim conditions
