In the new Canadian facility based in Cardigan –Prince Edward Island- all systems and machinery destined to produce small components and accessories in stainless steel and aluminium for yachts and superyachts have been installed and the production has begun.
The new production site, an 87,000 square-foot (8,000mq) facility 1,000 of which are dedicated to the offices, is situated in the Prince Edward Island, north of Maine and Nova Scotia, holding a perfect geographical position for the efficient transportation of goods.
Marc de Jong, Plant Manager, and Giancarlo Adami, General Manager, are following the facility fitting since may 2008 and they selected skilled workers for operating on a laser cutting machine with automatic systems for loading/unloading acquired from the Italian PRIMA Industrie, a water cutting machine, a milling machine and a numerical control lathe, a manual column drilling machine with the function of milling cutter, a band saw, a shear and two forming presses (200 and 400 tonnes respectively). A further 7 welding stations have also been prepared.
“The site, when running at full regime –said Roberto Sacco, CEO - is expected to parallel production at the Rivalta facility in Italy, producing the full range of nautical accessories in steel and aluminium (doors, davits, gangways, swim ladders, hatchways, stern platforms and other smaller components) becoming a valid support for the American market’s growth”.
Despite the tough period faced by the global boating industry, and the North American market in particular, Opacmare has materialized its commitment to being present in the American market with this investment and has begun production of components for cranes, gangways and tender-lifts while also diversifying production by working for third parties. In particular Opacmare Americas is working for local firms and for Testori Americas Corporation, based in Summerside PEI – Canada, which builds the internal parts of train carriages.
Opacmare - in US since 2004 with a Sales and Service Centre in Fort Lauderdale (Florida) that recently moved in a new location managed by Viviana Valenza - with the Canadian production site, it will be closer to its American customers and be able to cut down on delivery times and production costs.
