A prestigious international award received by the Rivalta based company at METS Amsterdam 2007.
METS 2007, the world's largest annual trade exhibition of marine marine equipment and accessories for the leisure marine sector, took place from November 13 – 15. The giant showcase of technological and design world firsts, now in its 20th consecutive year, opened with the traditional awards ceremony dedicated to the most innovative products presented by the exhibitors.
The DAME 2007 was awarded to OPACMARE for the Teaky Beach: an electronically controlled chaise longue than can be fully built-in to the stern platform for boat, the relaxation area of the fly or the fore sundeck of boat boats over 65 feet (20 meters). The Teaky Beach also came first in the category: Interior equipment, boat furnishings, materials and electrical fittings used in cabins.
The chaise longue is composed of three hinged sections that can be raised to accommodate a fitted boat mattress, but when lowered marine sinks into the deck less than 3 inches (55mm) leaving the area completely obstacle free. It is available in either slatted teak or fibreglass with a closed cell polyurethane mattress upholstered in specific marine fabric.
Each year a Jury, composed of 8 international representatives from the marine sector, including marine architects, interior designers and manufacturers, select a number of products, subdivided into eight categories, for final consideration and then award the best in each category; but the DAME – the METS Design Award – is assigned to one of the eight winning products that best expresses a balance between overall styling, construction, functionality and level of innovation. The jury found all these qualities in the Teaky Beach, presented by Opacmare at this year’s major autumn power boat shows: characterized by “elegance and flexibility” Jury Chairman Bill Dixon commented: “I think the winner deserves their accolade, the Jury as a whole liked the simplicity of the product, the ease with which it can be used and its elegant design”.
The dynamic Rivalta based company was also the winner of the Deck equipment, sails and rigging category with its Multifunction Stern Platform, which attracted enormous interest among prestigious shipyards as it incorporates, in just the one accessory three fundamental functions (marine tender marine lift, swim marine ladder and gangplank).
“I am very proud of these three awards as they represent international recognition of our research and development. We have always aimed at anticipating customer requirements, or rather at “creating a need” by proposing the right product, beautiful to look at, easy to install and sufficiently technological to make guests’ life aboard that much easier” commented Opacmare’s president, Roberto Sacco “These awards are also an affirmation of the award for Made in Italy Excellence Worldwide received from Confindustria at the beginning of this year”.
Opacmare SpA, founded by Pietro Roberto Sacco in 1995 as a manufacturer of components and accessories in stainless steel and aluminium for the marine sector, has completed an in depth metamorphosis, which began three years ago, with the expansion towards new markets (Arab Emirates and Canada) and the creation of overseas subsidiary companies in England, Spain and America while consolidating its presence here in Italy, with the expansion of its main production site in Rivalta and the acquisition of small metal works based in and around Turin.
The company’s growth not only concerns the production sites but is also a result of the number of prototypes developed during each nautical season, the number of shipyards registered as customers, the human resources involved, the sales network and of course the company’s annual turnover: with an average +27% over the last five years Opacmare is in fact among the more interesting manufacturers in the marine sector. The Group closed the year ending 31 December 2006 with an annual turnover of 30 million euros and expectations for 2007 are now estimated to reach 40 million.
