Glomex, a dynamic company constantly engaged in the research and development of products aimed at making life onboard safer and more comfortable, presents Polaris – a new directive antenna for all your communication and entertainment needs.

This new antenna offers the most highly advanced electric and electronic characteristics available and what's more it can be installed simply as an upgrade to your current system – the supports are the same as those used by Glomex over the last 20 years for receiving analogical terrestrial; the amplifier is even the same shape, but its functioning ability is far superior. It is important to note that Polaris comes with two amplifiers – one internal and one external, both having elevated noise dampening characteristics, or rather the capacity to reduce interference from other electromagnetic sources thereby improving sound quality.

Moreover, the level of signal amplification is such that it can be installed in systems where you don't want to replace the preinstalled coaxial cable, in so far as it makes up for any insertion loss due to the age of the existing coaxial cable. This new model has some very interesting and innovative technical characteristics, one of which is the presence ofbypasses for both the amplifiers: coaxial relays which make it possible to obtain optimal reception signal management under any condition.

This exclusive bypass solution, found only on Glomex antennas, is not only unique but is the only solution available today for the problem of receiver saturation by a too strong signal, a situation that makes TV viewing impossible. In fact, this problem of overly strong signals is encountered in proximity to TV repeaters or excessive amplification sources. Another characteristic of the bypass is to dampen interference from onboard appliances or from inferior quality power sources: these types of interference normally affect the video portion of digital terrestrial signals creating a disturbance that can go from picture haze to total blackout.

The combination of a particularly sensitive directive receiver, two amplifiers and bypasses makes Polaris the ideal antenna for marine crafts. In fact, this type of necessarily mobile craft is subject to considerable field variation and therefore an antenna system that can handle and adapt itself to the received signal intensity is the only winning solution. Polaris is able to receive both horizontally and vertically polarized signals and is therefore the ideal antenna for both analogical and digital reception. Now add to this the extra efficacy provided by an antenna element constructed according to the log-periodic principle – or rather, a directive element having a 60° lobe within which you obtain maximum gain, that in this particular case is 6dB (UHF), able to receive even if positioned to different angles.

For example, at a 200° incidence angle of the signal received by the aerial element, the gain is 0 dB – this means that whenever you are near the coast and signal intensity is strong, you can still watch TV without having to orient the antenna. It is also important to remember that signals broadcast with vertical polarization do not require any antenna orientation as the receiver element is omnidirectional. In the event that the received signal is too intense and the electromagnetic energy that our antenna picks up tends to saturate the system causing less that perfect viewing, it is possible to exclude the amplifiers and thanks to the bypass the signal reaches the receiver exactly as it is picked up by the antenna. Practically speaking, the addition of these elements has made it possible to solve the problem of saturation, a situation that all too often occurs in certain areas and one that cannot be remedied by adjusting the amplifier's potentiometer. In fact, on all antennas currently on the market if you exclude the amplifier, you block the signal: you keep it from reaching the receiver.

Glomex, always aware of the need to develop solutions able to resolve any type of problem that can compromise optimal TV signal reception onboard has come up with this apparently simple, but particularly effective system – one that makes the Polaris antenna the perfect solution, whether the signal is too weak or overly strong as happens for example in proximity to TV transmitters. Obviously, the development of the Polaris antenna is the result of the intense and dedicated research the company constantly carries out in these fields. In fact, the most advanced technical solutions are found in the research area that Glomex dedicates to satellite antenna, where the technical problems to be solved are both numerous and complex.

Glomex offers a wide range of satellite antennas and among those available on the market today it is the one company that is best able to guarantee both perfect viewing and structural reliability at a price in line with the value of the benefits delivered. Furthermore, Polaris is the only antenna currently marketed that can assure high quality digital terrestrial viewing even when sailing far off the coast – something that is simply not possible with sector switched or omnidirectional type antennas. The reason for this lies mainly in the elevated gain that a directive antenna is able to express, in our case 6 dB in VHF, while with an omnidirectional antenna the gain is 0. Consider the fact that based on these elements – which are purely technical and cannot be altered by any sort of alchemy – the ratio between one type of antenna and the other in terms of reception is 3 to 1. Moreover, the Polaris antenna system is not only particularly sensitive but has been designed to be extremely selective and this means that it picks up only those signals necessary to guarantee optimal TV viewing, ignoring spurious signals and those reflected by buildings or onboard obstacles, such as sailboat masts, etc. There are also some very compact antenna available on the market today and you would expect them to be little short of miraculous, but obviously in this extremely technical field you don't need a miracle to develop a good product – what is truly needed is applied research that makes it possible to reach avant-garde technical solutions that must comply with the laws of physics and radio-technology.

Glomex has carried out numerous tests on other companies' products: exactly on those that are touted to be ‘miraculous'. Based on this current experimentation and comparison phase regarding a wide variety of competitor products available on the market, Glomex has reached an important conclusion. Results demonstrate that the Polaris antenna has no rivals in terms of quality and/or performance. The differences, measured and evaluated by precise technical instruments, are enormous; above all in those situations of weak signal strength, as is often the case at sea. But even when in port, the differences are noteworthy: other antennas simply cannot discriminate between good signals and signals that are no more than noise. Even sector switched antennas, which in any case are and remain 0 dB, pick up at least three times fewer signals than Polaris, even when a specific receiving sector is selected.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service's New hovercraft set to save lives in Western-super-mare

The Avon Fire and Rescue Service (“AFRS”) has purchased a Griffon 380TD hovercraft to operate along the shoreline of Weston-super-Mare.

The hovercraft, which will cover an area of the shoreline from Brean Down to Sand Bay, is equipped to deal with a range of incidents including rescuing people who have became trapped in the mud and providing support to the area during times of inland flooding.

The 380TD is the smallest craft in the Griffon range, capable of carrying 6 persons or a payload of 450kgs.
The 380TD is a rugged rigid-inflatable hovercraft and benefits from having two diesel engines, one for lift and one for thrust, improving craft control in a rescue scenario. With the hover-on hover-off trailer, one person can quickly and easily transport and operate this unique vessel virtually anywhere.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service's hovercraft will be used to complement the services already provided by the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) and HMS Coastguard.

AF&RS Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive, Kevin Pearson, described the hovercraft as a major asset to the service.
He said: “The hovercraft will increase the flexibility of Avon Fire & Rescue Service's rescue capacity. As well as assisting us with incidents along the shoreline, we will be able to use the vehicle in more remote locations, where fire appliances may not be able to reach.

“Not only will it mean we can reach trapped casualties in just a few minutes, but it will also ensure the safety of our firefighters, who until now have had to walk out onto the mud and risk becoming stuck themselves.”

Halcyon's Explorer is the latest evolution of our exploration-grade primary lighting. The Explorer's DNA can be traced back eight years through the original Explorer Pro: certainly one of the most trusted dive lights ever made. From the rock-solid battery pack and the water-tight lid to the superior flicker-free performance of its HID light element, the Explorer sets the new standard against which other lights will be judged.

When Halcyon set out to improve upon its Helios designs, we had identified key areas that we saw lacking in canister lights across the board. We started with a truly leak-proof lid that could isolate the battery compartment in case of cord damage or the light head in case of canister flood. Design and testing began over a year ago, with many prototypes developed and refined over the course of testing. We were not going to release a design that was simply leak-resistant: no wiring from the light cord could enter the battery compartment.

The Explorer's lid isolates the cord wiring; O-ring protected, gold-plated banana plugs extend through the bottom of the lid to connect to the top of the Explorer battery pack. In testing, we've cut the light head off of an Explorer and then tested the light to 300' with the unsealed cord and found that no water was able to pass into the lid.

You know how it is…. Each time you use a wax/polish – it is like pumping iron – and in spite of your efforts the effect does not last. It is a true pleasure to work with UltraGlozz® – the true lazy man´s polish. Use it on boats, cars, motorcycles, caravans, bicycles, in your home and so on.

UltraGlozz® Superpolish became a clear testwinner in a big comparative test in the Danish boating magazine “Båd Nyt” in 2003 – the most sunny year since 1960. The test was performed from the beginning of March till the end of November and was published in February 2004. The competitors were the best from the giants in the marine trade – among others from Hempel and International.

But what is so special about UltraGlozz® Superpolish

UltraGlozz® is extremely easy to use. If used from the outset on new surfaces, all you need to do is to wipe it on and then wipe it off when it has dried after about 15 minutes. Wiping off is as easy to do as applying it. Future use of abrasives and rubbing compounds is not necessary. After you have wiped off the haze, UltraGlozz® starts to harden and 24 hours after each application you can add an additional coat. By adding coats with 24 hours intervals you can “build up a surface” – more coats give additional gloss and depth.

UltraGlozz® Superpolish also has a polishing function. Thus it removes oxidation from the surfaces and leaves a mirror-like finish. UltraGlozz® cannot remove deep scratches (it does not contain abrasives). A polishing machine or a multi sander makes the polishing easier, but you can also do it by hand.

When UltraGlozz® has hardened to full strength after 24 hours a UV-resistant shield is created. The formation of this shield makes cleaning very easy. The well-known black stripes often seen on boathulls can easily be removed with a brush and a little water – maybe combined by a little detergent.

You can use UltraGlozz® Superpolish on a variety of materials – among others painted surfaces, gelcoat, plastic, plexiglass, chrome, aluminium, stainless steel, brass, copper, silver, glass, mirrors, varnished wood and more. On our website www.ultraglozz.com you see a selection of polished items.

You can find an answer to most of your questions on our website – go in there and read more about the boatcare products of tomorrow.

Sly Yachts has laid down a new challenge for the yachting industry, proving its grit and desire to continue pushing the envelope: the result is Sly 61, the much-wanted project of the Cesena-based yard styled by Studio Lostuzzi - Yacht Design & Engineering.

The key new feature is the innovative new deck layout compared with previous versions: indeed, the boat profile stands out for the stylish raised saloon which has an even more commanding presence thanks to the seamless deckhouse window. This is a high-impact visual feature, especially from the inside as it floods the area with light and provides an excellent view of the outside.

At the heart of the project however are the luxurious fittings. Alongside the high-tech features supplied as standard (wide sail plan, high-performing efficient extensions and wide use of carbon throughout the construction), Sly 61 also boasts all top-of-the-range comforts for easy, enjoyable long-distance cruising, even with a small crew.

In construction terms, Sly 61 has all the same quality features as the rest of the range. The hull and deck are in recessed mould sandwich with glass and carbon fibre surfacing and a PVC and epoxy resin frame. And there's more. Sly 61 will also have a retracting fin with displacement reduced from 3.8m to 2.3m.

Each individual feature confirms the Sly team's love and enthusiasm for sailing. The fast, highly enjoyable Sly 61 is the flagship project for 2008, and ideal admiral for a yard with the desire to grow. In all senses.

Adding to their very successful self-levelling range, Scanstrut are now introducing two new pole mounted Self Levelling Radar Mounts.

Utilising the existing SC100 Pole System, the first product features a head unit which slots into the top of the pole and supports the levelling mechanism.

The mount is 2.5m / 8'4" in height and features an adjustable base allowing installation onto angled decks, narrow swimming steps and steeply sloping transoms. The kit is also supplied with two support modules, a deck strut and rail stand off, to provide maximum fore / aft and sideways support.

A variation of this product allows a dual installation of both radar and 30cm satcom/tv antenna on the pole, with the Self Levelling Mast Mount fitted to the pole and a top platform supporting the satcom/tv dome above the radar to ensure the best performance from both applications. In this format, the kit is supplied with two deck struts for additional support.

Head of Sales at Scanstrut, Carine Cooper comments "The Self-Levelling Pole Mount is an exciting addition to our already popular self-levelling range. Not only does it offer even more installation options but the Dual option also provides an innovative double radar and satcom/tv mounting solution for sailboats".

Available worldwide, both products retail at £989.00 (ex VAT).

Elco's electric drives and charging systems are available to boat builders, dealers, and private owners. They can be specified for new hulls or retrofitted in most displacement type boats such as classic replicas, deck boats, dinghies, fishing boats, hunting and duck boats, launches, rowboats, skiffs, sailboats, work boats, or most any displacement hull up to 36 ft. in length.

Elco's reliable electric drives come in 1/2 (0.5) to 8 HP range with single and twin (or dual) motor configurations available. The motors can be installed as a ratio drive with a pulley reduction system and in some cases as direct drives to better fit smaller hull spaces. The drive systems operate from 24 to 72 volts using permanent magnet or shunt-wound DC motors and include, controllers, side mounted throttles, and instrument panels combined to provide proven, reliable operation for years of trouble free, low cost service.

Pershing, one of the world's leading companies in the open yacht sector, is currently organizing the second edition of its exclusive Sea Show. A unique yachting tour that stops at some of the most spectacular marinas in Europe, and which, this year, stars the shipyard's latest revolution, the Pershing 64'. The show includes four stopovers offering customers, journalists and the general public the privilege of sea trials before the craft is unveiled at the major boat shows. And like last year the show has been carefully planned to set off the craft in four unquestionably stunning locations, in perfect harmony with the brand's prestigious, international personality. Beginning in Italy, in Milan, the design and fashion capital of the world, the tour will continue onto Portorose in Slovenia, a classic centre of luxurious entertainment and well-being and then on again to the monumental elegance of St Petersburg in Russia, from where it will sail on to enjoy its last leg in the fun and sunshine of Palma de Mallorca in Spain.

Tilli Antonelli, the Pershing founder and President, describes the event as follows. “In our eyes, the Sea Show formula is highly representative of the shipyard's philosophy, as it expresses above all our dynamic, never-stop attitude. Not to mention, our love for innovation and great performance and our continuous quest for the highest levels of exclusive comfort and luxury. These values, which have always distinguished the brand, have been carried a step further forward in our latest creations. Together with our recent communications based on the Moving Idea concept, the Sea Show is an initiative that we have dedicated great energy to, because it embodies perfectly the vision we wish to promote and share with our customers.”

The first leg of the 2008 Pershing Sea Show that opened the event in a particularly unique and stimulating atmosphere, came to an end on April 21. This saw the Pershing 64' make a picturesque voyage on sea, river and road, from the Adriatic all the way to Milan, where the craft was displayed in an unusual and yet spectacular location in the Navigli canal district. Timed to coincide with the Milan Design Week, the impact of the craft's original setting and the extraordinary quality of its interior design, combined to make this choice an ideal stage on which to exhibit the superior class of Italian yacht design to a much wider public than the normal yachting audience.
The qualities of this splendid craft, however, do not end with its beautifully crafted interiors and the sleek, streamlined contours of its aggressively modern exterior. This model is also currently revolutionizing its segment by combining the exclusive comfort normally found in flybridge style craft with the sporting character and performance of an open yacht that reaches speeds of up to 46 knots.

The Pershing 64' is a highly concentrated essence of technical know-how and construction experience. But it is also the expression of a world of beauty, lifestyle and originality. And this is how the craft will be presented in the forthcoming stages of the spectacular Sea Show, which will soon be stopping in Portorose.
Comfort, luxury and top Pershing performance will be the highlights of the show that will be staged in this beautiful Adriatic resort on May 8 and 9 with a series of exciting events for Pershing's guests.
After Slovenia, the Pershing 64' will sail onto St Petersburg, where it will stop over from June 20 to 21. The craft will then head onto Palma de Mallorca where it will celebrate the end of its presentation tour on July 25 and 26.

Portland, OR – New from FLIR Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLIR), the Navigator II thermal imager features a new color viewing palette, a programmable Home button and FLIR's exclusive Accu-Point position and control display feature which insures that operators will always know where the camera is looking. Navigator II gives boaters the ability to navigate safely at night and through light fog, smoke and haze. Unlike night-vision devices that need visible light to make an image, the Navigator II features the latest thermal imaging technology, providing clear imagery in total darkness by sensing the subtle differences in heat that are around us all the time. Housed in a rugged, waterproof enclosure, the Navigator II provides a wide-angle image that boaters can watch on virtually any monitor or multi-function display that has a video input. Hazards to navigation like channel markers, shipping lane traffic, outcroppings of land, pilings, bridges, nearby vessels, floating debris and people in the water are easy to see even in total darkness. Navigator II is the easiest FLIR camera to use – ever. Its joystick control affords simple operation of the pan and tilt features, and a second joystick can be added, allowing control of the Navigator II from two locations on the boat. Two new color palettes provide
images everyone will enjoy. “Thermal imaging is fast becoming an indispensable tool for recreational boating navigation and safety,” said Lou Rota, vice president of Maritime Sales at FLIR Systems. “Now even the most budget-minded boater can utilize the same thermal imaging technology used by mega-yacht owners and the military.”

If you're taking your pet on or near the water, their safety should be just as important as yours. Whatever your water sport activity, be it out to sea, on the beach, at the lake or along the local river, you need to ensure the trip is fun but also safe.

Not all pets can swim well and even if they do, they can get tired quickly. If they are in the water for long periods of time, cold and tiredness will affect them just as much as a human.

Crewsaver's new Petfloat is a smart, fun and stylish way to keep your pet safe. Coming from the UK's leading manufacturer of lifejackets technology, the new Petfloat has been researched and tested on a wide range of pets to find the best combination of safety, comfort and design.

Manufactured using a supersoft closed cell foam that offers excellent buoyancy and flexibility, the outer fabric is extremely durable and provides high levels of wear resistance for longevity.

The Petfloat is easy and quick to fit. Padded webbing straps on the underside clip easily into place using quick release buckles. These straps pass through a foam padded harness that sits underneath the pet holding it in a secure horizontal, swimming position.

An added feature of the harness is that the pet can be safely lifted from the water using the incorporated lifting handle. This can be attached to a halyard for lifting larger pets. A standard “lead” attachment point is also supplied.

To ensure that leads, treats or pooper scoopers are not left behind, the Petloat has a zipped mesh pocket on the back so that your pet can be self sufficient on long days out.

Available in bright red, the Petfloat features reflective safety piping for high visibility on and around the water. It comes in 5 different sizes from extra small to extra large ensuring they are suitable for most breeds of cats and dogs.

The Innovation Awards, organized by the National Marine Manufacturers Association and judged by Boating Writers International, recognize innovative products that benefit the marine industry or consumer. The products must be "practical, cost-effective and available to the consumer within 60 days of award receipt."

Ideal for coastal boaters, the Revere Coastal Compact™ liferaft bridges the gap betweenthe lifejacket and a full-feature liferaft. Starting at $999.00, the lightweight, compact and affordably priced Revere Coastal Compact fits and fills an important need. This high-visibility yellow polyurethane coated nylon liferaft adds ballast pockets for stability, a water activated locator light, a sea anchor and a top-off pump. The CO2 inflation system quickly deploys the raft with pull-ring ease in about 25 seconds.

According to Andrew Kaufmann, President of Revere Survival Products, the Coastal Compact was designed to accommodate boats under 25' or so with its compact size and low weight of 16 lbs. for the 4 person. It is also a cross-over product for general aviation FAA Part 91 aircraft. The Coastal Compact 2-person raft is also available.

Hatteras Yachts is pleased to announce an exciting new product that solidifies this legendary boat builder's position as the industry leader in high-tech sportfish design. Featuring a mezzanine cockpit, lightweight construction, tumblehome curvature in the hullsides and an exciting new tournament edition option, the Hatteras 60 Convertible is unlike any production boat in the marketplace today.

From the beginning of this model's design process, the Hatteras product development team has focused squarely on performance and fishability as top priorities. As such, the new 60 Convertible represents a paradigm shift for the company. Built in Hatteras' new facility in Swansboro, North Carolina, the 60 will be one of the only fiberglass production boats to feature tumblehome in the hullsides. It will also be the first Hatteras to feature a completely resin-infused hull, rather than one built up of layers of hand-laid fiberglass. The automated resin-infusion process produces a more uniform hull thickness from one hull to the next, as well as the most ideal glass-to-resin ratio. This one-two punch produces a boat that weighs significantly less because of the lowered resin content, while providing a more precise fit of bulkheads, stringers and other components for increased strength and durability.

Not since Snoop and Dre has a legendary duo turned out a hit this good. The all new 2008 Murray is the product of two industry icons. Shaun worked together with long time rider and designer Greg Nelson to perfect his shape for 2008. Taking everything Shaun asked for into account Greg designed a masterpiece featuring a dual rocker line which carries all the speed of a continuous rocker while on edge and the pop of a 3 stage off the wake. The variable edge design makes for a soft, forgiving center rail which transitions into a sharper cupped rail tip and tail. While grabbing your board and boning out your tricks, the ribs encounter the harnesses edge. Therefore this edge should be designed with the human kinetic technology principle and with the form of the rib case in mind. By doing so we introduce the flex edge. The sides of the harness are more flexible on points where the load distribution allows it, as a result the flex edge gives you more feedom of movement and painfull ribs are history.

This waist belt is secured on the frame on the inside of harness. The stretch in the belt makes your harness feel comfortable from the moment you put it on. The Velcro on the battle belt is positioned in such a way that it won't damage your suit, lycra or skin. This redesigned knife is a new standard in safety. It can cut through ropes up to 6 mm quite easily. It's completely made of stainless steel and due to its shape it has a firm grip and can it be used with gloves on.

This Yamaha AR210 was one of the first boats outfitted with DeepSea Power & Light's (DeepSea) new MiniLED Thru-Hull SeaLite® and the amazing light output made quite an impression. The spectators were thrilled by the “afterburner” effect of the boat's rooster tail being lit up by the lights. Even when the boat was at rest, the blue glow behind the vessel provided a dramatic look that really made the ski boat stand out. The owner of the Yamaha choose to have it equipped with three MiniLED Thru-Hull SeaLite® (two blue, one white) mounted straight back thru the transom.

DeepSea has incorporated unique features in the new MiniLED Thru-Hull SeaLite® that set it apart from other underwater boat lights on the market. All of the electronics are integrated into the compact watertight fitting that is completely serviceable from inside the boat. In addition, thermal rollback circuitry protects the LEDs from overheating, allowing them to be left on while the boat is underway. The MiniLED Thru-Hull SeaLite® is designed for ski boats, center consoles, and yachts tenders where space is at a premium and price is an important consideration

The perfect day boat to cruise with style, simplicity and elegance...

Having in mind the spirit of the utility boats of the thirties, the Bahama 20 has been conceived as a subtle blend of simplicity, efficiency and style. It combines timeless elegance to modern technology, both in its conception and its construction.

An accurate balance between weight and stiffness allows the Bahama 20 to be surprisingly light for its size. Fast and fun to drive, il will be propelled easily by a medium-sized engine - also a good way to save fuel.

Thanks to its lightweight and moderate size, the Bahama 20 is easy to trail, to launch, and to maintain.

Its original interior layout offers plenty of open space and allows six persons to cruise in comfort. At its mooring, the big cockpit becomes either a sundeck or a pleasant place for a sunset drink with friends.

In a great range of colours, you will be able to select your own combination, and customize your Bahama 20 as a real "one-off" boat.

Fiberglass reinforced nylon rudders increase stability and tracking. Designed for skiers under 100 lbs. The adjustable bindings fit child size 12 to adult size 5.

Compact, Lightweight Max Power Retractable Thrusters. Won't Affect Boat Performance, Great For Tight Spaces.

Traditional tunnel-style thrusters greatly reduce turning-moment performance when, due to space limitations at the bow, they are not able to be installed as far forward in the hull as possible to reach necessary immersion depth. Max Power's Compact Retract™ thruster eliminates this problem completely. It retracts when not in use and leaves clean hull lines with no impact on a boat's drag.

Designed for performance sailboats and powerboats from 30 to 52 feet, the quiet-running, low profile, lightweight units achieve ideal immersion depth when deployed. Simple to install, the Compact Retract is ideally fitted in tight forward spaces.

The Max Power Compact Retract features:

• Integrated electric motor
• Available in 12 and 24 volt models
• User-friendly joystick and control panel
• High-resistance, spiro-conical gears
