Volkswagen Marine and the Frauscher shipyard have been enjoying a close collaboration for several years. In 2006 “Die Gläserne Manufaktur Dresden” came on board as well and the mutual design and technology exchange between the Volkswagen Phaeton and the Frauscher 757 St. Tropez attracted a lot of positive attention.

When Volkswagen AG looked for the perfect craft to feature their new high performance V8-TDI 350-8 in a serial installation, the Frauscher shipyard was quickly identified as the perfect and reliable partner, especially because Frauscher had just introduced an absolute top model with the 909 Benaco in 2008. Not only its impressive design, but also the highly efficient hull was ideally suited to match and merit a high performance twin engine installation. The V-8 high performance diesel TDI 350-8 and the remarkable characteristics of the 909 Benaco interact so ideally that unprecedented acceleration onto the plane sets new standards. These Audi-based power plants, which move the 909 Benaco with a total force of 516 kW (700 hp), convince with exceptional torque already at low engine speeds whilst operating at a level of silence and refinement that honours the style of the boat. Further key facts are low engine weight, extremely low emissisons (European and U.S. EPA Tier II standards are met with ease) plus the safety of using diesel instead of volatile gasoline.
