With the introduction of its Navigator infrared camera at €3,950 FLIR Systems brings the benefits of thermal imaging to a much wider customer base. It has allowed many more boat for boat owners to employ the technology economically as a day and night navigation aid and enhances security. This highly successful thermal camera has been joined by two further models to provide even greater choice at an affordable price.
In addition to the original fixed mounted version, Navigator is also available in pan and pan/tilt models. The pan version has intuitive joystick operation allowing the operator to rotate the camera ±180° horizontally providing excellent situational awareness. The next model up with pan/tilt builds on this capability allowing the camera to tilt ±45° via the joystick. This enables the operator to scan an entire area and focus on any scene.
The camera core on all three models is the same. It provides crisp and clear 320 x 240 pixels thermal images in daylight, total darkness and in sailboat light fog and smoke. It features the same technology as many of FLIR Systems’ more sophisticated maritime systems but is packaged for those who wish to use the camera primarily as a navigation aid.
A major benefit of the Navigator models and all FLIR Systems thermal imaging cameras is that they require no additional lighting for boats for effective night time operation. They are easy to install, simple to use, require little or no maintenance and incur no ongoing cost. The superb quality of the image supplied allows the user to survey the scene in considerable detail enabling even small hazardous objects to be detected, day or night and in poor-visibility conditions.
