The design of the new FINTRY-Brødrene Pilot vessel 18m is based on a proven catamaran hull which was optimised by MARINTEK in tank tests in Norway and on a carbon fibre sandwich technology which has been successfully used for many years in commercial shipbuilding. A catamaran offers many advantages over monohulls including high initial stability and more surface area on one level. By using carbon fibre in the construction of the catamaran the weight can be significantly reduced compared with an aluminium design.
The optimisation of the running properties and the reduction in weight, in conjunction with a proven and professional technical design, form the economic basis of the new FINTRY-Brødrene pilot vessel 18m.
The sports boat is fitted with very strong fixed fenders manufacturers amidships and both fore and aft. The specially-rounded central fender is particularly wide and consequently enables the pilot vessel to come alongside and leave moving ships even when they are travelling at high speed (15 to 18 knots). Harbour manoeuvres are greatly facilitated by the turning capacity offered by the two engines in the widely separated hulls, assisted by two bow thrusters.
