Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (CMD) is in production with Zeus, the world’s most advanced marine propulsion device. “CMD met its target, which was to be in production for the 2008 model year,” said Gary Dickman, vice president of sales & marketing for CMD. “Sea Ray, Cobalt, Doral and Grand Banks have already made their announcements regarding the integration of Zeus as an optional propulsion package for select models. Over the coming weeks, more industry-leading OEM’s will announce that Zeus will be an integral part of their propulsion line-up for 2008 model year,” Dickman said.
Zeus features world class, cutting edge technology that has undergone a rigorous validation process, including thousands of hours of on-water testing in varying sea conditions. Unlike other pod systems, Zeus delivers an added level of safety with pods protected by tunnel mounting, rear-facing props and a breakaway skeg. Independent vectoring for each pod delivers dramatically improved high-speed handling. Counter-rotating marine propellers feature increased blade area, larger gear ratios, no side forces and minimized cavitation. The results of the advances are impressive, up to 15 percent faster sailboat top speed and up to 30 percent increased fuel economy at a higher cruise speed. With up to 550 horsepower, Zeus offers more power density than comparable pod systems.
