Maintenance-free propellershaft seal? The solution is an: AxiSeal!
The AxiSeal is applied on water lubricated stern tube systems. (Amartech can advise you about convertion of grease lubrication into water lubrication).
Advantages of the AxiSeal:
* No shaft wear, achieved by using axial sealing surfaces
* Applicable on old / worn prop shafts
* Maintenance-free
* Environment-friendly
* Easy installation
* Compact mounting dimensions
* Perfect shaft sealing
* Long life, through SiC parts
* Seawater resistant
* Allowed propeller shaft movements:
- axial: + / - 10 mm
- radial: + / -2 mm
The AxiSeal is an axial seal. A totally different way of sealing from a radial seal, like the conventional stuffingbox or lip-type seal. With a radial seal the sealing rings run directly on the propeller shaft. This often causes wear of the sealing rings and the propeller shaft within a sailboat short period. With leakage as result.
The AxiSeal seals axial (parallel to the shaft direction). The together with the propeller shaft rotating, self centring Silicon Carbide (SiC) rotary face runs against a Silicon Carbide (SiC) stationary seat. By "lapping" both of these surfaces the right way, a lubricating film is built up during the rotating of the propeller shaft. This results in a very low friction coefficient. This guarantees a long life.
